CCM: Sanbao Pharmaceutical speeds up construction of amino acid project 06-16-2016

On 18 May, 2016, Jiangsu Sanbao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Sanbao Pharmaceutical) was reported to speed up the construction of its 1,000 t/a amino acid project (including derivatives), into which has been injected altogether USD23.23 million (RMB150 million).

The new amino acid plant, with an area of 11.33 ha (170 mu), will be equipped with new production and ancillary facilities. After it can produce at full capacity, the total sales are projected to reach USD30.98 million (RMB200 million) and profits and taxes to USD4.65 million (RMB30 million).

According to CCM's research, Sanbao Pharmaceutical was founded in Sept. 2014 and boasts a R&D center for quality control and technology upgrading. It focuses on the R&D, production and sales of amino acids and derivatives, like amino acids extracted from plants, amino acid chelates and amino acid salts. Specifically:

  • Knockout products: L-leucine, L-tyrosine and sodium L-aspartate
  • N-acetyl amino acid series: N-acetyl-L-methionine, N-acetyl-DL-methionine and N-acetyl-L-tryptophan
  • Other refined amino acid series: DL-methionine, threonine and L-methionine

Focus on high value-added amino acids

Zhao Jichun, a manager of Sanbao Pharmaceutical, disclosed, "We are the innovator of these amino acids, and we are applying for national patents for invention. So far, our products have been tested and recognized on the spot by both national authorities and Germany clients."

According to the State Intellectual Property Office, in Sept. 2015, Sanbao Pharmaceutical obtained a patent for technology named A Method of Extracting L-leucine from Plant Proteins. This technology, with high yields of L-leucine, does less harm to the environment by avoiding the use of regular precipitants. Thus, it shows relatively high economic benefits.

L-leucine, one of the high value-added minor amino acids, is mainly used in medical treatment, especially helpful in cases like providing nutrition for the seriously ill and rescuing the patients in emergency. At present, the global output of L-leucine is around 7,000 tonnes (China: around 2,100 tonnes), vs. global demand at about 28,000 tonnes. China’s market price of L-leucine reaches USD0.03-0.05/g (RMB0.2-0.3/g).

A producer with patent for invention on high value-added amino acids can be more competitive in the market.

"Besides the good business climate, it is the outstanding quality of our products that wins the recognition from national authorities and Germany clients. From the design and construction of plant to the purchase of production facilities and choice of production techniques, we always adhere to the principle that quality comes first," said Zhao Jichun.

Sanbao Pharmaceutical targets at well-known enterprises and merchants at home and abroad. So far, thanks to its strict control on quality, the company has attracted many merchants to sign long-term supply agreements.

In this context, the company launched a new amino acid project in Jan. 2015. Yet, no specific information has been offered on what amino acids it is planned to produce. However, according to information on the company's business license, the new project may also focus on the production of its knockout products. At present, it speeds up the installation and adjustment of production facilities in the new plant, trying to finish construction and start pilot production by the end of May.

So far, construction of the new plant has been going on orderly and smoothly: infrastructure, like roads and facilities for water delivery and power supply, continues being put up. "We are trying our best to finish the project earlier to take up larger sales in the market," said the head of this project.
